Activities
My research activities focus on mapping coastal habitats using GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and remote sensing techniques, specifically using ArcMap 10.8 software. This work aligns closely with the field of marine science, particularly in the study of coastal ecosystems and their dynamics.
My research involves gathering remote sensing data such as satellite imagery or aerial photographs, which provide detailed information about coastal landforms, vegetation, and water bodies. These data sources are crucial for accurately mapping and monitoring changes in coastal habitats over time.Using GIS software like ArcMap 10.8, I apply various spatial analysis techniques to process and interpret the remote sensing data. This includes image classification to differentiate between different types of coastal habitats, such as mangrove forests, salt marshes, or sandy beaches. I also utilize GIS to create thematic maps that illustrate habitat distribution, fragmentation, and spatial relationships within coastal areas.
I integrate field data collected through surveys or ground-truthing to validate and refine the accuracy of my GIS-based habitat maps. This interdisciplinary approach allows me to not only analyze spatial patterns but also understand the ecological processes shaping coastal environments.
By mapping coastal habitats using GIS and remote sensing, my research contributes to the broader understanding of coastal ecosystem dynamics, resilience to environmental changes, and supports conservation and management efforts. This work is essential for informing decision-makers and stakeholders about the importance of preserving and sustainably managing coastal resources in the face of ongoing environmental challenges.
