Carlos V.C. Weiss is an expert in decision sciences applied to spatial analysis. In recent years, his research has focused on maritime spatial planning (MSP) and ocean multi-use approaches, with emphasis on renewable energy and offshore aquaculture industries. He has experience in spatial analysis, multi-criteria decision models, GIS-based mapping, climate change projections, and stakeholder engagement. He holds a degree in Biological Sciences with an emphasis on Marine and Coastal Environmental Management from the State University of Rio Grande do Sul (UERGS-Brazill; 2007–2011), a master’s degree in Coastal Management from the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG-Brazil; 2012–2014), and a technical course in GIS from the Federal Institute of Science and Technology of Brazil (IFRS; 2012–2014). He earned his Ph.D. in Coastal Engineering, Hydrobiology, and Aquatic Systems Management from the University of Cantabria/Environmental Hydraulics Institute in Spain (2014–2018). He worked as a professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande (Brazil) at the Institute of Oceanography for 15 months (2019-2020 public call: temporary position). He is currently a researcher at the Environmental Hydraulics Institute (IHCantabria), University of Cantabria, Spain. He has been recognised as an R3 Established Researcher by the Agencia Estatal de Investigación (AEI), according to the European Framework for Research Careers.
