The JCOMM Cross cutting Task Team on Satellite Data Requirements shall conduct the following tasks for the period of 2012-2015:

  1. Work as the JCOMM focal point for the OPA, DMPA and SFSPA coordination groups and appropriate Expert Teams to build the adequate coordination and requirements for satellite data and products;;

  2. Propose to the JCOMM Co-Presidents representative(s) from the Task Team in the CBS Expert Team on Satellite Utilization and Products (ET-SUP), and IOC representative to the Coordination Group for Meteorological Satellites (CGMS);

  3. Develop for the JCOMM Management Committee (MAN), in advance of its 11th session for inclusion in the JCOMM intersessional workplan (2012-2017 and beyond) a draft strategy and process document with recommendations on how to:

    1. maintain JCOMM short term forecasting applications requirements, with emphasis on the integrated use of in situ and remotely sensed data for data assimilation systems in forecasting services with focus on accuracy and timeliness requirements;

    2. develop integrated satellite products for multiple marine meteorological and oceanographic users;

    3. promote consistent quality control between in situ and remotely-sensed data, together with appropriate feedback mechanisms;

  4. Finalize the document under (c) and submit it to the Co-Presidents within six months after the 11th Session of MAN; and

  5. As an integral part of the work of the Task Team, prioritize the synergies between the in situ and the satellite for specific ECVs, including a proposal for developing a project for SVW (e.g. similar to what was done by GHRSST for SST) to be submitted before the 12th session of MAN.
