I have been on the ground working with communities and government in the Asia-Pacific since the early 1990's.
I enjoy big complex "wicked" problems and challenges. I have seen the good and the bad in development programs and am able to draw on these experiences, my extensive understanding of the systems, policies, practices and culture of the region to identify "best fit" solutions to make positive change with a long lasting impact.
My story begins at age four when a fishing rod arrived under the Christmas tree, that immediately led to my father taking me to the lakes, rivers and seas of the Atlantic culminating in a degree in biology (fisheries). Soon after graduation I grabbed a chance to come to the Asia-Pacific and therein began my lifelong work with fishing communities.
What have I learnt? The art of timing, focus, the art of assembling and managing teams, the need to develop institutions and long-term thinking as well as looking at the whole system. My brand: reliability, quality and relevance in this challenging and very exciting field.
