My main areas of interest are: Survival of fish escaping from fishing gear, causes of post-escape mortality in fish, application of post-escape survival estimates in fisheries management, 'unaccounted mortality' in fisheries and the use of scientific diving in fisheries science. As part of the ICES Study Group on Unaccounted Mortality in Fisheries, I am currently trying to compile a database of all current knowledge and research in the following subject areas: illegal, misreported and unreported landings; discards in fisheries; post-escape mortality; ghost fishing; fish mortality due to habitat degradation; or any other mortality of fish as a result of contact (direct or indirect) with fishing gear (apart from the obvious landed catch).
