This capacity building effort aims to enhance oceanography capacities of a new generation of regional researchers through a science-focused training, and to provide room for discussions and interactions among speakers and participants.
This training on ocean science is addressed to young researchers (post-grade students and post-docs) from the countries in the region (Cabo Verde, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Mauritania, Morocco and Senegal) whose research focuses on the Canary Current upwelling system physical dynamics, biogeochemical processes or ecological processes.
The main expected outcome is that oceanography capacities with a focus on science in the Canary Current upwelling system are enhanced, and project results shared with a new generation of regional ocean scientists. Networks will be built through the attendance of regional experts and postgraduate students from different countries and with different backgrounds. The project results and lessons learnt will be integrated into interregional discussions on similarities and differences across the various eastern boundary upwelling systems.
This is the second workshop programmed within the 3rd phase of the project entitled “Enhancing oceanography capacities in CCLME Western Africa countries”, which is implemented by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-UNESCO) and funded by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).
