Selection procedure: Identification of the institute(s) with the appropriate mandate: this is the institute mandated by its national government to carry out the work that the training addresses, preferably the institute capable of acquiring or accessing necessary data for training. For each country, this identification is to be based on the assessment report for each country, complemented or updated by guidance from the COAST MAP IO focal point, the IOTWS focal point, the IOC contact point, and other relevant experts and authorities in the country. Call for applications from institute(s) identified in step 1. These applications will be sent by the training institutions experts, and will include the general criteria and guidelines for selection as presented below, and training-specific criteria. Preferably two or more applications should be proposed from each institute. The training institute together with IOC/IHB review applications and provides recommendations for applicant selection to the director of the institute The director(s) of the institute(s) select(s) the staff that will attend the training, based on the recommendations provided by the training institute in step 3. General selection criteria and guidelines: Please note that these will be the criteria and guidelines common to all trainings within COAST MAP IO. Each training may complement them with specific criteria. Good working knowledge of the training language. This will be English for the majority of participating countries, but, depending on available funds, training in a different working language may be accommodated for countries that request so. Sufficient computer skills Educational qualification in Earth sciences, hydrography, and oceanography (IHO cat.
