Arctic Sea Ice a Record Low

Summary Summer sea ice in the Arctic has shrunk to a record low. In a race against time, UNESCO and several of its sister agencies are working with countries to put in place an Arctic Observing System to ensure that neither the Arctic environment, nor Arctic societies are the losers in a "wild west-like" scramble for resources that would compromise universal access to the Arctic Ocean and universal benefit from it.
